Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Dr. Gunther Rice

On March 22, we were honored to welcome Dr. Gunther Rice, author of Tell Everybody, Tell Everything: The Story of My Family and My Journey, as our special guest at our Chicago office ribbon cutting. After being expelled from Germany to Poland during WWII, his mother had secured passage for him on the Kindertransport to Wales. Dr. Rice eventually made his way to the United States. His parents and sister were killed by the Nazis in Poland.

Margalit Tocher presented HCA’s first annual Lifetime Achievement award to Dr. Rice for his contributions to community throughout his career as a clinical psychologist and as a model of the Balanced Care Method. He currently leads chess and book clubs.

Following a fall a year ago, Dr. Rice noted that his image of himself changed, and he realized he needed help at home to continue living independently. He said he always looks forward to the days his caregiver, Jadwiga, comes to his home. He also appreciated the care and concern during the initial assessment with Nancy Hopkins, Home Care Assistance’s client care manager in Kenilworth.
